| PROGRAM: Unless you have been notified to the contrary, classes will meet from 9am to 4pm with a one-hour lunch break. All classes will be held at The La Veta School of the Arts, 105 W. | “Learn technique and then dispense with it.” Render leaves, flower petals, grasses, branches and all manner of wildlife. This class will begin with a short explanation of the origins of brush or Sumi painting and the materials needed. By midmorning, students will be exploring the art of ink on rice paper. Sheigla Hartman began her career as a professional artist in a show at the Denver Art Museum in 1967. Since then, her work has appeared in 9 one-person shows and 83 group exhibitions in the United States, Europe, the West Indies, Korea, Morocco, Scotland and Canada. She draws, paints, makes prints and sculpts as well. She has a fine arts degree from Doane College, and has received many awards and scholarships. She has studied in Denmark and has a MFA equivalent from her study and teaching in France. |

Kenny Schneider has a Bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, and a Master’s Degree in art from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. He is teaching and has taught art at several major universities in this country. This 2-day workshop will introduce students to the various aspects of digital photography: from different types of cameras (point-and-shoot, dSLR, etc) and lenses, to exposure, lighting and composition. This 2-day workshop will introduce students to digital photography: from basic operation of a digital camera (camera-phone, point -and-shoot or digital SLR), file formats. "digital darkroom" techniques to optimize photographs (color correction, cropping, noise reduction, etc.), printing to managing the storage of digital photographs (searching, metadata, etc). Students will need a camera (and manual), a laptop and editing software such as Photoshop Elements or Lightroom. Demo versions of editing software will be available. |

This five-day workshop includes a lecture to give an overview of the molding process. Students will learn how to set up, weigh and mix rubber, plaster, and dismantle for cleaning. There are many steps to learn, with notes provided for later use. This is a chance to learn by doing the work, while the instructor oversees your progress. The completed workshop will yield a fully functioning mold that serves the requirements of the lost wax process of bronze casting. Lab fee: small (12" or less) $75.00; medium (12" to 15") $135.00; large (15" to 20") $180.00. These prices are based on one gallon of Poly Fast rubber costing $60.00. |

Carla Knight studied art education with a five-year apprenticeship, under the tutelage of sculptor George Carlson. She began making molds in 1968. Over the years, she has sculpted, molded, cast in bronze, and entered national juried art shows. Carla has won several prizes for her sculpture, one being the Grand Prize at the American Women Artists show in Scottsdale, AZ, in 1998. Her bronze, "the Rice Ritual", is part of the permanent collection of the High Plains Arts Council in Benson Park, Loveland, CO. |

| This intensive two-day class will give you a hands on introduction to gas and mig welding techniques for creating found objects and mild steel sculpture. You will also learn common methods for cutting steel. Various other commonly implemented arts metal techniques will be discussed in detail as well as basic welding safety. On day two, the instructor will assist you in creating a sculpture from found objects that you have brought for that purpose. Class limited to 7 . | ![]() |
Doug Anderson started young as an artist studying art and illustration through high school and college before he was drafted and trained as a welder/metal fabricator. He graduated at the top of his ship fitter class in Ft. Eustis, VA, before being sent to Vietnam. In 1985, he established an art welding/fabrication shop called the Iron Horse in Evergreen, CO where he created art pieces designed around Indian artifacts and ornamental railings using flat bar steel. In 2001, he brought his Iron Horse business to Walsenburg. He collaborated with artist Laura Audrey on a large outdoor sculpture in front of the music building at UC Boulder called "Stop & Rest". |
