| PROGRAM: Unless you have been notified to the contrary, classes will meet from 9am to 4pm with a one-hour lunch break. All classes will be held at The La Veta School of the Arts, 105 W. Ryus, across from the park. | MATERIALS: You will be sent a materials list when you register for a class. Some classes may have a modest materials fee. |
| MEALS: Reasonably priced sandwiches and salads may be ordered daily and will be delivered. | " Learn technique and then dispense with it . " Render leaves, flower petals, grasses, branches and all manner of wildlife. This class will begin with a short explanation of the origins of brush or Sumi painting and the materials needed. By midmorning, students will be exploring the art of ink on rice paper. this year, colored inks will be added. The lab fee will pay for all the materials needed for this class. | ![]() |

As a painter and printmaker, he has taught art classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Honolulu Art Academy, among others. | See how paint reacts to different paper surfaces. For instance, some paper absorbs pigment, others float color or react best to dry brush . Explore, experiment and complete works of art for five days . Learn how to develop a painting and know when to stop. Traditional and experimental techniques will be demonstrated. Sheigla Hartman begin her career as a professional artist in a show at the Denver Art Museum in 1967. Since then, her work has appeared in 9 one person shows and 83 group exhibitions in the United States, Europe, the West Indies, Korea, Morocco, Scotland and Canada. She draws, paints, makes prints and sculpts as well. She has a fine arts degree from Doane College, and has received many awards and scholarships. She has studied in Denmark and has a MFA equivalent from her study and teaching in France. |

This workshop will consist of day to day instruction in modeling the figure with oil-based clay. Students will be introduced to various tols and construction of an armature. Ready-made armatures will be available if requested early enough in advance of the class. The figure will be created from a live model stressing anatomical structure as well as expression. The finished sculpture will stand 20" tall. Lab fee pays for the model. Supplies can be purchased from the instructor. |

| In collaboration with our well-known, local Celtic Festival, we are offering this this workshop in beading. It will explore the many ways to do beading on brass chain. Students will learn to make unsoldered chain links, attach beads and also add commercial chain to hand-made beaded links. After the basic instruction, students will be free to explore different ways of adding chain, links and beads to create standard and three dimentional necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Linda Hickman has been a jeweler for 20 years. She studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York City and Valley Artist Guild in Peters Valley, New Jersey. Her teachers included Irena Brenner and Phebe Allen Blake. Her work appeared on the cover of the Celtic Design magazine for the Irish Music and Arts Festival at Wolftrap Park in 1996 and has been displayed at craft and jewelry exhibitions all over the East Coast. She teaches a Celtic jewelry and design workshop each year for the past 10 years at the Catskills irish Arts Week in East Durham, NY. |
