| PROGRAM: Unless you have been notified to the contrary, classes will meet from 9am to 4pm with a one-hour lunch break. All classes will be held at The La Veta School of the Arts, 105 W. Ryus, across from the park. | MATERIALS: You will be sent a materials list when you register for a class. Some classes may have a modest materials fee. |
| MEALS: Reasonably priced sandwiches and salads may be ordered daily and will be delivered. Using tools, charcoal and paint, you will explore mark-making, paint possibilities, making sense of nonsense, trusting your own vision and the psychology of line, form and color. | " Learn technique and then dispense with it . " Render leaves, flower petals, grasses, branches and all manner of wildlife. This class will begin with a short explanation of the origins of brush or Sumi painting and the materials needed. | See how paint reacts to different paper surfaces. For instance, some paper absorbs pigment, others float color or react best to dry brush . Explore, experiment and complete works of art for five days . Learn how to develop a painting and know when to stop. Traditional and experimental techniques will be demonstrated. While instructing and demonstrating, Lynda, a Master Navajo weaver, will share her personal stories and experiences, allowing participants to gain fascinating insights into ancient and contemporary worlds of Navajo weaving, Navajo history, culture spirituality and weaving taboos will also be discussed along the Way. All looms will be warped, weaving tools and weft yarn will be furnished for beginners. |

For those who want to warp on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a lab fee. However, there will be no lab fee for those who want to continue weaving over the two day weekend. The instructor will be available for consultation. Only week long students are eligible for this class. A supply list will be sent to you when you register. |

| In collaboration with our well-known, local Celtic Festival, we are offering this Celtic photo etching on bronze class. You will also learn piercing techniques, patinas, sanding, polishing and chain making. Any beads you bring can also be incorporated into the piece of jewelry you create. Linda Hickman has been a jeweler for 20 years. She studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York City and Valley Artist Guild in Peters Valley, New Jersey. Her teachers included Irena Brenner and Phebe Allen Blake. Her work appeared on the cover of the Celtic Design magazine for the Irish Music and Arts Festival at Wolftrap Park in 1966 and has been displayed at craft and jewelry exhibitions all over the East Coast. She teaches a Celtic jewelry and design workshop each year for the past 10 years at the Catskills irish Arts Week in East Durham, NY. |

| This intensive two day class will teach basic welding and cutting techniques, as well as basic safety. If you have never welded before of even if you are experienced, you will learn to create exciting metal sculptures. A variety of art metal techniques will be taught and tools will be provided for hands on instruction. On the second day you will create your own sculpture from found objects that you have brought for that purpose. | ![]() |

| Learn basic carving stone techniques. Learn how to identify a variety of stones and learn how they are carved. There will also be a short presentation on the history of stone sculpture. A large variety of carving tools will be provided for hands on instruction. Small pieces of Colorado marble will be provided to create a sculpture to take home.
