Classes are designed for school-aged children. Younger children are welcome with an adult caregiver. All materials are supplied by LVSA. Scholarships are available thanks to funding from private donations from friends and supporters of LVSA. La Veta School of the Arts does not discriminate in any way.

Collage Fun
Come learn about color, design and composition through the magic of collage with Rena Kaplowitz. Kids of all ages can create beautiful works of art using paper, fabric, found objects and glue. (All Ages)

Painting Together

Join Jill Schwarz in a playful creative experience for children and their parents/grandparents/caretakers. We will use big brushes & bold colors to create shared abstract paintings on stretched canvas. Just in time for Father’s Day! (All Ages)

Fun with Rhythms

Learn to create exciting rhythms from around the world. Visual and musical artist Annie Enke will lead the way. If you have a tambourine or shakers, bring them along. If not, the art school will have various instruments for everyone to use.(All Ages)

Tie Dye
Learn the colorful art of Tie Dye. Two T-shirts, flag material and instruction will be provided by Patti Kiehne. Students may also bring one 100% cotton item from home to dye. This is a fun way to explore color and design. (All Ages)

Jewelry Making

Come join Mary Cooper to learn basic beading techniques and create beautiful jewelry with multi-colored beads and your own stamped polymer clay pendants. Easy and fun for boys and girls.

Paint Yourself

Draw life-sized body outlines, then use paint to fill in the rest of the story. Linda Frederick will encourage students to use a wide variety of techniques and strategies for unique self reflection in their finished work. (All Ages)

Fusing Glass
Learn to make fused glass creations with Jill Whitmore. Using small pieces of glass, students will blend color and shape to transform layers of glass into works of art. Pieces will be fired in a kiln overnight and may be picked up the next day. Let your imaginations fly! (Ages 10+ suggested)

Clay for All

Use your hands to create clay works of art! Meet at the Pinon Clay Studio Gallery, 221 N. Main Street. Nicole Copel will introduce students to different ways of shaping, molding and building with clay. Extra time will be scheduled the following week to decorate artwork after the kilning process.

Sculpture Building

Using Henry Moore’s organic shapes as inspiration, Amber Smelser will help guide young hands in creating stunning miniature, painted sculptures made of wooden blocks, nylon stockings and wire.(All Ages)
